York company helps tackle

youth unemployment

According to recently released statistics, there are more than 1 million 16 to 24 year olds unemployed in the country. Tele-Products Ltd, established in York more than 23 years ago, is doing its bit to help cut youth unemployment.

Managing Director, Seggy T Segaran has always been active as a Princes Trust mentor, coaching young entrepreneurs through the very difficult start up phase. “I have found this to be very rewarding” says Seggy. “While providing much needed business help I have also learnt a lot from every business that I have supported” he added.

The businesses have varied from an on-line specialist vinyl record retailer, to film production company through to a website providing downloadable music. “Statistics show that start up business that have a mentor have a much higher chance of succeeding” adds Seggy.

Tele-Products have published a business book to help people looking to generate an income by PAT testing.

“Starting and Running a PAT Testing Business” gives an overview of this market for anyone who might be interested in generating an income from PAT testing. A successful business needs to take many other things into consideration such as pricing, competition, marketing, customer service and the boring bits such as bookkeeping. What this book sets out to do is to provide a useful background to all these other activities which contribute to the success of any business. Most of this is based on the author’s experience over 20 years of running his business.

One review said “This book is extremely accessible - an easy read yet is still meaty with masses of good, practical advice and tips, together with great illustrations, and summary boxes that round up the important points. The Appendices with examples of a press release, a quote, an invoice, a leaflet etc are useful to people new to business and in the body of the book there is loads of information on how to set up your business, what records to keep etc and then how to market your business and of course the PAT relevant information such as training, PAT testing equipment and tips on how your PAT business could be different and better than the rest.”

Tele-Products is giving away 10 copies of this book. Anyone wanting a copy should e-mail a request to seggy@tele-products.com with supporting information by Friday the 16th of December.

Out of the 10 receiving the “Starting and Running a PAT testing business” book, one will be chosen and offered an opportunity to attend our training course and receive a PAT tester FREE, to set up in business. This offer is only open to individuals between 18 and 24 with a YO postcode.

We hope that the PAT testing business book, course and tester can help launch a young person into a new career.

“Every indication is that the current economic climate is going to get worse before it gets better. If we can help one or two young people to get started in business then we would be doing our bit for the York region” said Seggy.
